January 2015 News - January began with the Young Farmers hosting the annual New Years Day Duck Race! Despite the wet weather we still managed to get the ducks onto the water! Refreshments and tickets were sold in the village hall, and we thank you for attending this event.
Other events of the month were the Regional Bowling Competition and County Swimming competition – Congratulations to Calum Smalley, Elliott Smith, George Hamlet and Levi Nicholson for entering! The County Quiz Competition and Public Speaking Competitions are currently ongoing….watch this space for results!!!

December 2014 News - County AGM was held at the start of the month, Jessica Townson stood down as County Chairman, and Phillip Miller from Bilsborrow YFC too over the role. It was also a brilliant night for the club, as we won the County Junior and Overall Club involvement trophies, Jessica Townson also won County Senior Member of the Year, and Charlotte Winder won County Intermediate Member of the Year.
We also hosted on the 14th of December the 10th Anniversary of the Clubs Christmas Cracker, at Clitheroe Auction Mart. We has Radio One DJ Aled Haydn Jones as our guest entertainment for the evening, and there were Christmas jumpers galore! Thank you to everyone who attended the evening, and to all the advisory and parents who help to make it happen.

November 2014 News - November started with the annual village Bonfire, which the Young Farmers help to organise, this went really well with a good turnout - thank you to all who assisted and attended it!
November was also the month of the Clubs Annual Dinnerdance, which was held this year at the Calfs Head at Worston. It was great to see so many trophies being handed out to younger members for doing so well over the past year. Jonathan Frankland (Chairman) gave an overview of the past 12 months, announcing their achievements at Club, County, Northern Area and National levels.
Some of these included Calum Smalley and Sam Mitton who competed in the Fence Erecting at Northern Area, Charlotte Winder who got through to Northern Area for Public Speaking, and Rebecca Pilkington achieving National level in Floral Arts. Anna Dakin, Molly Dakin and Lucy Armer received third place at Nationals for Cookery and Charlotte Winder and Rebecca Pilkington achieved fifth place at Nationals with the County Cube Exhibit based on 'Serving our Country'.

October 2014 News - October was debate! Thank you and well done to Charlotte Winder, Jessica Townson, Anna Dakin and Louise Simpson , who were this years debate team, and did extremely well reaching the finals! Unfortunately narrowly getting beat at the final hurdle, the club is hoping to do even better in 2015. Congratulations Girls!!
On Saturday the 4th of October was the Advisory and Older Members Pub Crawl, which started off at the Buck Inn at Paythorne and finished in Skipton. An enjoyable day was had by all!
Our very own Sam Mitton excelled himself again at the Annual Clay Pigeon Shooting Competition, where he came first place and kept the trophy for another year.
In October the club also held their annual club trip, and this was a day Paint balling. Members were separated into teams, and had different challenges throughout the day. Not only did members out their shooting skills to the test, but they had to work well as a team in order to avoid being shot.

Sept 2014 News - September started with the clubs Annual General Meeting, in which Jonathan Frankland was re-elected as the Chairman and Calum Smalley was elected as Vice- Chairman. Charlotte Winder was also re-elected as the Secretary, and Alison Pilkington will continue her role as Club Treasurer. The Club would like to thank all retiring officers for their hard work and wish their new members well in their posts!
September also saw members from the Club competing at the National Finals in Malvern. Rebecca Pilkington competed in the floral art, and Molly Dakin, Lucy Armer and Anna Dakin competed in the cookery and finished an overall third place. These are fantastic achievements for the club and its members.

January 2013 News - January began with a qwuacking event, when the Young Farmers once again held the Duck Race! This year’s proceeds are all going to Jack’s Journey – a local charity. Thank you to all who attended – we hope you all enjoyed the day! Other events of the month were the Regional Bowling Competition and County Swimming competition – Congratulations to Douglas Airton, Patrick Bamford, Lauren Mealing and Catherine Graveston for entering! The County Quiz Competition and the Regional Public Speaking Competition – are still ongoing….watch this space for result!!!

December 2012 News - December the month of the CRACKER!! Also, not to be forgotten in this month was the County AGM which was another big event for BxB Members! Not only did Jessica Townson have the pleasure of being awarded with the County Junior and Club Involvement Trophies, she was also elected County Vice Chairperson for the year 2012-2013. The club would like to wish her well in the coming year.

November 2012 News - November could be considered as a quiet month for the club but preparations for their looming Christmas cracker were well under way! The County Bowling competition took place in which BxB had a team entered. The Club once again hosted the Village Bonfire which went exceptionally well – thank you to all who assisted and attended, it was a great night enjoyed by all!!

October 2012 News - October was debate! Thank you and well done to Abbie Lund, Catherine Graveston, Anna Dakin and Jessica Townson – this year the team made the quarter finals but unfortunately did not progress further. Congratulations Girls!! In October the club also held their annual Dinner Dance where the club trophies were handed out. Jessica Townson (Chairperson) gave an overview of the past 12 months of BxB YFC and was especially proud to announce their achievements at County Level. Their County awards included; Junior Member of the Year – Abbie Lund, Top Clay Pigeon Shooter – Ben Mitton, Top Club at Horse Judging, Top Club at Afternoon events at the County Rally, Top Club at Entertainment at County Rally and Top Club Overall at County Rally!

Sept 2012 News - September saw Ben Mitton, Sam Mitton and Calum Smalley entered into the County Clay Pigeon Shooting Competition and came 1st, 2nd and 4th in the Junior competition. Ben was awarded the Top Score award for the Juniors and Seniors! Congratulations Ben! Catherine Graveston and Jessica Townson competed at the County Eliminators for the Live and Carcass Judging competition – congratulations to both. In September the club held their AGM. Re-elected as Chairperson was Jessica Townson with James Newhouse staying as her Vice. Catherine Graveston was elected as the Secretary with Hannah Robinson as Assistant Secretary. Alison Pilkington was re-elected as Treasurer with Tom Bolland and Ben Harper as her assistants. The Club would like to thank all past and retiring officers for their hard work and wish their new members well in their posts

July & August News 2012 - On Saturday 7th July members went on a summer trip to ‘Go Ape’ at Grizedale in the Lake District.  The weather was glorious and we all had a wonderful time!  Jess Townson and Catherine graveston competed at the Northern Area Stockman of the Year competition and did very well.  Jess Townson, Charlotte Winder and Louise Simpson competed at the regional Stockman of the Year competition and also had a great evening, thank you to them for entering.  Our final meeting before the summer break was a trip to watch Ice Age 3D at Blackburn cinema.  We have had a wonderful year so far with the club and cannot wait to see you all again in September!

June News 2012 - On 4th June members of Bolton by Bowland YFC spent an enjoyable day in the sunshine at the village jubilee celebrations.  It was a fantastic event and the YFC organised an obstacle course for later in the day. 
Sunday 10th June was the senior boys county tug of war competition at Myerscough Open Day.  Our team were not placed but did very well considering their lack of preparation compared with the other teams.  We are looking to organise a regular tug of war practice night for members who are interested.
The county Dairy Eliminators took place on Thursday 14th June.  Ella Stanley and Ben Armer competed for the juniors, Robert Graveston for the intermediates and Catherine Graveston for the seniors.  Everyone did really well, especially Catherine who was 1st and will now compete at the national competition at the Great Yorkshire Show.
Northern Area Field Day was on Saturday 23rd June at Carlisle Auction Mart.  Bolton by Bowland represented the county well and many thanks must go to Helen Dakin for driving the mini bus to the competition.  Members competed in the opening ceremony dance routine, sheep shearing, open wedding anniversary card, Olympic torch metal work, bolster and bar and stock judging.  Everyone did really well and Jess Townson and Chris Cornthwaite were placed third in the bolster and bar competition.  Lancashire A team was placed 4th overall.   
The county Stockman of the Year competition took place on Thursday 28th June.  Robert Gravestone competed for the U16’s and Jess Townson and Catherine Graveston competed in the O16’s.  All 3 did extremely well as there are may different classes to judge, Jessica and Catherine are both through to the Northern Area competition on Sunday 22nd July.


May News 2012 - Sunday 13th May was the Young Farmers regional rally held at Gisburn Auction Mart.  Well done and thank you to all members who competed – we had too many placing’s to list!  Two weeks later was the County Rally on Sunday 27th May.  This was a fantastic day for our club being placed Top Club Overall! Again there were many placing’s including the cookery team being first and now competing at National – Lucy Armer, Molly Dakin and Anna Dakin.  Ben Armer was placed second with his Olympic torch and will now go through to Northern Area.  The dance team of Ella Stanley, Abbie Lund, Georgina Bullock, Lucy Armer, Jake Stazicker, Douglas Airton, Patrick Bamford, Hannah Mellin and Molly Dakin were placed first and will also now compete at Northern Area! We received three trophies overall and are thankful to all members, parents and advisory who helped make the day such a success. 


April News 2012 - April was a quiet month for the members with few competitions taking place, however our senior members had a blast at the Annual Convention in Torquay!  May on the other hand has been none stop!  On 15th May 7 of our members entered the county horse judging competition.  It was a fantastic success with Molly Dakin placed first and Calum Smalley placed second for Juniors and Laura Airton placed second and Jessica Townson placed third for seniors!  Well done to Lucy Armer, Lauren Mealing and Millie Smalley who also did very well.  We received the trophy for Top Club in the horse judging.


March News 2012 - This month 14 of our members travelled to Parbold for County Rural Skills Day.  The sun was shining as members took part in many competitions including tug of war, 100m run in wellies, brick laying and ATV safety and handling.  Everyone did really well and the club was placed third overall which was a fantastic result!  Our club is doing very well at the moment being joint first with Bury, Kirkham and Parbold YFCs for County Club Involvement and joint first with Kirkham YFC for County Junior Involvement.  This is all down to our fantastic members who are so keen to get involved with all the competitions and consistently do well!

February News 2012 - This month we have had the county public speaking competition and are pleased to report that Ella Stanley, Georgina Bullock, Abbie Lund, Catherine Graveston and Jessica Townson  have all got through to compete at Northern Area weekend at the beginning of March.  Abbie is also competing in Member of the Year at Northern Area after she won at County level.  Our club tops arrived this month and they look very smart! We are pleased that so many of our members have purchased them and will wear them to support the club and advertise Silverwoods Waste Management.   We also entered the regional indoor sports night where members did very well and we achieved many placing’s!

January News 2012 - There have been 2 more rounds of the quiz competition in January and both our A and B teams continue to do very well.  The regional public speaking competition was held on 24th January and lots of our members competed.  Well done to everyone who took part and congratulations to Ella Stanley, Georgina Bullock, Abbie Lund and Catherine Graveston who have got though to the county public speaking competition in February.  Jessica Townson will also compete in the regional senior debate team. We have ordered our Club Shirts this month which have been very kindly sponsored by Silverwoods Waste Management.  We are very grateful to the company for its support and to the Director Julian Silverwood for his generosity.  The New Years Day Duck Race was once again a great success and we would like to thank everyone who came, bought tickets and supported the event. Overall we have had a good start to the year for Bolton by Bowland Young Farmers.  Wishing everyone best wishes for 2012.

December News 2011 - Our debate team of Jessica Townson, Catherine Graveston and Abbie Lund did very well to reach the semi finals! They missed out on the final by only 5 points, congratulations for getting so far! Very well done to Catherine Graveston who finished 9th as an individual and 8th in Lancashire’s team at the English Winter Fair.
